And schools don’t pay extra when it comes to claims processing and safety and loss control. We have those services in-house and include them in our premium rates.
Our claims, safety and loss control and bill review staff have an average tenure of 15 years with SISC. We take excellent care of injured workers, using managed care to treat employees’ injuries promptly so they can return to work as quickly as possible.
We also push claims to a timely resolution. Our average closing ratio is 99.6% over the past 7 years.
Recently, we underwent an extensive routine audit by the Division of Workers’ Compensation Audit and Enforcement Unit. We passed with zero administrative penalties, confirming that we provide timely benefits to our injured employees.
Our program features a variety of cost containment programs, including utilization review, preferred providers for nurse case management, diagnostic services, investigation services, and a pharmacy benefit management program.
We’ve also created and maintain our own customized medical provider network. Kern County Foundation and California Foundation for Medical Care handle the physician credentialing for us.
We help our member districts build a culture of safety to prevent unnecessary claims. Both online and onsite training is available to our member districts on numerous topics at no additional cost. Plus, member districts who participate in our safety program can earn 2% of their premium back.
