Our Health Benefits pool is the largest school-focused purchasing pool in California—giving us access to provider networks at some of the lowest rates available.
And with our member districts spread out all over the state of California, membership in SISC is like a diversified investment. We can smooth out sharp rate changes when one region performs significantly better or worse than other regions.
We can also spread our administrative costs and claims risks over a very large membership base. Districts often pay less than half of the admin costs they would have on their own or through smaller pools.
Over the past four years, SISC renewals have averaged less than 5%; and each year, every plan (PPO, HMO and Kaiser) for every member district has been single digits.
Our districts will tell you it’s our service that really differentiates us. We have our own in-house underwriting staff and technical expertise. And each district is assigned a service team that includes an account manager and two benefit specialists. The three-member service teams average 42 years of experience in benefits.
We understand the school calendar and know that our members need as much time as possible to budget, plan and bargain for the coming year. That’s why we provide our benefit renewals in early spring and proactively educate our districts throughout the year.
