Smart Flex Purchases Made Easier
The Internal Revenue Service has recently issued several new rulings that will affect the use of your Smart Flex Card. Effective January 1, 2008 you will not be able to use your Smart Flex Card at non-health care merchant facilities such as grocery and discount stores, wholesale clubs, supermarkets, and mail order and web based vendors unless they have implemented an Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS). The IIAS substantiates transactions at the point of purchase, and will deny ineligible medical purchases.
Your Smart Flex Card will continue to be accepted at health related merchants such as doctor’s offices, medical facilities, pharmacies, etc.
For your convenience we have included the most current listing of retailers that will have the IIAS in place by January 1, 2008. We will keep you updated on merchants as they are added to the IIAS list.
